The story of the cat and curiosity is just a fable. You know that, right? You don’t really think cats are more curious than other animals do you? Do you?
All animals and people as animals are born curious. That’s how they learn about their world. And, if there is no obvious threat to their safety, they retain some curiosity. But the idea that cats are known for their curious nature, more than other animals, is only a myth.
Cats are extremely affectionate loving animals, if not abused or threatened, and need companionship, food and shelter as much as any animal. But they are also discerning about what they’ll buy into. Of all the animals I’ve known in my life (and there were many) the cat was probably the least curious compared with my dogs.
Run the vacuum cleaner and I have 3 dogs coming in to sit in front of the vacuum cleaner just to see what I’m doing. Plant a flower or a bush and the dogs are in my face sniffing me and the hole I’m digging. Mow the lawn and my dogs are dangerously in my way trying to see what I’m doing. Open a bag of anything and my dogs are trotting in to see what I’ve got. You name it and my dogs are probably curious. The cats I’ve had were just lying around watching the dogs poking their nose into my business.
I worry more about my curious dogs getting into trouble.
